LM-X License Server Upgrade

LM-X License Server Upgrade

Enventive v2.0 requires upgrading the LM-X license server, which we recommend doing in advance of installing Enventive v2.0. The V1.1.x clients will run with the new license server.

To upgrade the license server for Enventive v2.0:

  1. Contact Enventive Support to obtain a new license file.

  2. If you have customized the configuration file, lmx-serv.cfg, make a backup copy of the file, because downloading the new license server will overwrite this file.

  3. Start the LM-X license setup tool (lmxsetuptool.exe). Shut down the license service from the License Server Configuration tab, then close the Configuration Tool.

  4. Download the License Server.

This link downloads a zip file. Unzip the file into the directory where your license server is currently located. This will overwrite the old license server executable and the old lmx-serv.cfg file.

  5. The license setup tool has been renamed to lmxconfigtool.exe, so you should remove the old license setup tool, lmxsetuptool.exe.

  6. Overwrite the default lmx-serv.cfg file with your customized .cfg file if needed.

  7. Replace the old license file with the new license file.

  8. Open the LM-X Configuration Tool (lmxconfigtool.exe) and restart the license service.

  9. In some cases, you may need to use the LM-X Configuration Tool to set up the license server and specify the paths to the license server, the configuration file, license file, and log file. To do this, select the License Server Configuration tab and click the New Server button. Enter a name for the license service, and then use the Browse buttons to locate each of the files to specify their paths.

If you are not using the default port, 6200, you should change to the default port with this upgrade. If you change the port number, the license clients must also change the port number the next time they start up, so notify users of the port change. If you need to change the port from 6200 to a different port number (not recommended), you must also edit the configuration file and all of the client installations accordingly.

It is best to upgrade the license server when no users are connected. However, if the port was not changed, it is possible to upgrade the license server when users are connected. Any user who is connected during the upgrade will get a message indicating that the connection to the license server has been lost. The connection can be lost for 5 minutes without an adverse impact on the users. If the service is restarted within 5 minutes, the connection will be restored automatically.
