Changing the derived parameter in a connection

When one parameter in a connection is derived and the other is locked (indicating that it is setting the other parameter in the connection), you can switch the locked and derived statuses. This switches which parameter sets the value for the other in the connection. (See Driving Parameter Values and Locking and Unlocking Parameters for details about lock statuses.)

Note: Both parameters in the connection will be derived unless both parameters are unlocked in their respective models when you create the connection.

To switch the locked and derived statuses in a connection:

  1. Open the Connections view and locate the connection you wish to change. In the example below, the distance parameter is driving the gap parameter.

  2. Click on the lock status icon (in column L) for the parameter that is locked to change the status to unlocked, as shown for the distance parameter in the illustration below.

This also unlocks the other parameter in the connection, as shown for the gap parameter in the above illustration. (Note that changing the lock status to unlocked may also change other lock statuses, if they are related to the parameter you are modifying.)

  1. Click on the lock status icon to lock the parameter you want to use to set the value in the connection. The lock status for the other parameter in the connection will change to derived status. In our example below, we locked the gap parameter, so it is now driving the distance parameter.
