Placing a curve length dimension

A curve length dimension measures the length along an arc or a line.

When used to measure the length of a line, it creates a point to point dimension in the same manner as the linear dimension tool. The curve length dimension tool is easier to use because you need only select the line, instead of the two points on the line.

To place a curve length dimension:

Select the curve length dimension tool from the Sketch toolbar.
Click on the arc or line. The arc or line length appears in the Sketch view and in the parameter table.

Once created, arc length dimensions may take on any value, even if it is greater than the circumference of an equivalent circle. This powerful feature allows you to wrap the arc around any number of times. You can use this to simulate a rack and pinion or other devices by linking the values to other dimensions or variables.
