Placing a linear dimension

A linear dimension measures the distance between two parallel lines/centerlines, two points or a point and a line/centerline. The points can be point objects or points on other objects (such as the endpoints of a line).

To place a linear dimension:

  1. Select the linear dimension tool from the Sketch toolbar.
  2. Click on the line or point to measure from.
  3. Click on the line or point to measure to.

Enventive Concept computes the distance and displays the dimension in the sketch and the parameter table. If a line-to-line dimension is being created between two non-parallel lines, the lines are also made parallel. The line-to-line dimension also adds a parallel constraint between lines if one does not already exist.

See Line-to-line dimensions for more information about dimensions between parallel lines.
