Spreadsheet interoperability
Release Note: As of Concept v4.2, Excel has been replaced with a native Enventive Concept spreadsheet.
Enventive Concept gives you several ways to use spreadsheet data interactively within Concept and between Concept and Microsoft Excel.
Spreadsheet interoperability within Concept
The spreadsheet is fully integrated with all other aspects of your Concept model. You can:
-
Export values from the spreadsheet to the sketch view as geometry (points, lines, arcs, or tangent arcs).
See Exporting spreadsheet data as geometry for information on using these options.
- Create variables in the Math view's parameter table based on data selected from the spreadsheet.
-
Update a spreadsheet with Concept model changes. For example, you can modify a dimension value from the sketch and update the spreadsheet information accordingly.
- Update the Concept model with spreadsheet changes. When you change values in a connected spreadsheet, the values also change in the model, reflected in the Properties Explorer, Sketch, and Math views.
Spreadsheet interoperability with Excel
The native Concept spreadsheet includes many Excel interoperability features. You can:
-
Move dimensions and variables between Excel and Enventive Concept. You can import or export name/value pairs between Excel and Enventive Concept, and you can create links between selected parameters.
See Importing and exporting data between Enventive Concept and Excel for information on using these options.
- Export the spreadsheet to Excel.
-
Update the Concept model with spreadsheet changes using EnUpdate functions. For example, you could use a lookup table in the Excel spreadsheet to drive a dimension in the model, or set up different configurations of variables that update simultaneously.
-
Perform a wide variety of tasks to customize tolerance analysis using Enventive Concept's COM API from within Excel macros (using VBA). For example, you could program your own Monte Carlo simulation using the COM API. Enventive Concept's tolerance analysis report is completely generated in Excel using VBA and our COM API, so this method of interacting between Excel and Enventive Concept enables nearly any spreadsheet customization you need.
Please contact Enventive Support for more information about using the COM API.
