Creating new parameters
Geometric dimension parameters, such as lengths, radii and angles, are added to the Math view's parameter table automatically when you create the dimension in the Sketch view.
You can add user-defined variables directly to the parameter table. You can also use equations to create parameters and set their values.
To add a user-defined variable to the parameter table:
-
At the top of the Parameter Table, enter the parameter name and value in the Name and Value fields.
- Press Enter to add the parameter. It appears at the bottom of the parameter table.
Valid Name and Value entries
When adding a variable, note the following.
-
Variable names can consist of a combination of letters, numbers, special characters and spaces. However, a variable name cannot consist only of numbers and special characters. Names must contain at least one alphabetic character.
- The variable value can be a mathematical expression (for example, "45*180/pi").
- You can create multiple parameters at once by entering the parameter names separated by commas in the Name field; for example, entering "height, length, distance" in the Name field and "10" in the Value field will create three entries in the parameter table with a value of 10. When entering multiple parameters, only one value can be specified (or leave the Value field unspecified to accept a default value of "1" for all entries). You can change the values in the table after creating the parameters.
- You can copy the tolerance analysis spreadsheet name/value pairs or tab-separated text (for example, from Word or Notepad) into the parameter table by copying the data and pasting it into the Name field, then pressing Enter twice.
Clearing contents of Name and Value fields
When you select a parameter, its name and value appear in the Name and Value fields. If the name and value fields are already populated with an existing parameter, you must clear the fields to enter a new parameter. To clear the Name and Value fields, press ESC, or click the Add/Clear button to the right of the parameter entry fields, or click outside of the parameter table. You can then create new parameters using these fields.
